Nourish your Soul with This Simple Act of Self-Love

As I sip on a cup of Barry’s Irish tea, from my favorite antique teacup, my eyes are drawn through the old square window panes towards the rolling hills of Slieve Gullion. 

I pause for a moment to reflect on the journey that brought me to this magical place in Northern Ireland. My eyes start to well up as I feel both joy and relief wash over me. 

You see, life hasn’t always been this good. I’ve had my fair share of challenges, yet through them all I held on to the faith that one day I’d create the life I knew I deserved. 

Spending time in England and Ireland over recent months means that I’ve been drinking a lot of tea. And while that may bring certain health benefits, it also brings a sense of connection back to the self. When you take the time to create a beautiful ritual out of tea making, you feel a heightened sense of deep soul nourishment.

This is about purpose and love. 

A small act of self-love that has the power to recharge body, mind and soul. 

It’s during these precious tea drinking moments that I’ve been brewing a new idea to encourage deeper connections, nourishment and self-love within my online community. 

You’re probably aware that it’s easier to raise your vibration and achieve your goals when you surround yourself with people who make you feel great. That’s why I’m creating a new video series called Tuesday Morning Tea with Maeve. Each week I’ll be sharing a video (sometimes live, sometimes pre-recorded, depending on my location and travel plans) at around 11am on my Facebook business page where I’ll be sipping my favourite tea and sharing my words of wisdom. Sometimes I’ll be inviting a special guest onto the video to share their passion and expertise with you - and I may even try some exotic or herbal teas!

What’s your favourite tea? And when was the last time you were able to truly indulge in the complete tea making and drinking experience? 

If your tea drinking habits have been reduced to throwing a simple teabag into a mug while watching daytime television or (worse still) reheating a cold cup of tea in the microwave (yes, I’ve seen it done!), then you may have noticed that this same lackadaisical energy is flowing through other aspects of your life. If you’re not achieving your business or financial goals, or you’re unable to see an improvement in your health, fitness or physique, then it’s highly likely that you could do with a daily nourishing ritual to raise your vibration and boost your emotional well-being. 

Use these questions as prompts to help you get out of the rut and into a harmonious energy flow. 

  • Which aspects of your life always feel rushed? How might this change if you had more time?

  • What dreams did you have as a child? How different does your life look from how you envisaged? Do you have unfulfilled dreams?

  • What are the most valuable things in your life? (*Hint: emotionally valuable rather than financially valuable.) 

  • If you could change one thing in your life right now, what would it be?

After you’ve spent some time thinking about these prompts and any other questions or thoughts that pop into your mind, allow yourself some quiet time to just be. It’s in these quiet, peaceful moments that we are more able to access our deepest desires and hear our soul’s whispers.

Interesting fact: People were using ceramic teapots 11,000 years ago in Asia and the Middle East but tea didn’t reach Europe until the late 16th century.

The story of tea begins in China: ’According to legend, in 2737 BC, the Chinese emperor Shen Nung was sitting beneath a tree while his servant boiled drinking water, when some leaves from the tree blew into the water. Shen Nung, a renowned herbalist, decided to try the infusion that his servant had accidentally created. The tree was a Camellia sinensis, and the resulting drink was what we now call tea.’

‘One Per Person and One for the Pot’ - How to make the perfect cup of tea

Everyone has an opinion on how to make a ‘proper’ cup of tea. The first ingredient must be leaf teas. Not tea bags and certainly not powder. Black tea is the dried and fermented leaves of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis.

  • Fill a kettle with fresh water and bring to the boil.

  • Warm the teapot with a little of the boiled water swirls it around the pot and discard.

  • Place one tsp of fresh, leaf tea per person plus one for the pot.

  • Top up the teapot with the boiling water (do not allow the water to go off-the-boil or it will not be hot enough to brew the tea).

  • Leave to infuse for 3 to 4 minutes, no longer or it will develop a ‘stewed’ flavor.

  • Pour the tea through a tea-strainer directly into clean―preferably―china teacups.
